TTT: Books Set in a Fantasy World

Books Set in a Fantasy World
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they have a different Top Ten list topic that a bunch of bloggers take and make their own list of those things. This week is Top Ten books with X setting.

I chose to make a list of my top ten books set in a fantasy world. This might have turned out a bit like a list of fantasy worlds that I want to visit, but that's similar to the list I set out to make...kind of...maybe. Oh well, what's done is done. ;) Keep in mind that these aren't in any specific order (how does one even choose a favorite?).

Inheritance (The Inheritance Cycle, #4)1. The Inheritance Cycle---Alagaesia
This world is just magical. Christopher Paolini spent so much time crafting this land and all of culture and history. Whether or not I had magic or was dragon rider, I'd still want to live here and fight battles and meet elves.

Princess Academy (Princess Academy, #1)
2. Princess Academy---Mount Eskel
When I read this when I was in fifth grade I wanted so badly to go to Mount Eskel. The family feel among the mountain people was so perfect and I wanted to be a part of it. The festivals sounded amazing and I want to experience one.

    3. The Lumatere Chronicles---Lumatere/Charyn
Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1)Speaking of magical places to experience, I want to go to Lumatere so freaking badly. I want to meet Isaboe and Phaedra and Quintana and Finnikin and Froi. I want to go to The Rock and The River and The Citavita. Everything is dealt with in broad strokes in Lumatere. There are declarations and oaths and it's just the very best of fantasy.

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, #1)4. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her own Making---Fairyland
Another perfectly wonderful, magical world. There's no knowing who September is going to meet next and what sort of ridiculous antics are going to come from it. The logic is very much fairytale logic, and I love it.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1)5. The Girl of Fire and Thorns---Joya D'Arena
The scenery that Rae Carson describes sounds gorgeous. Even though the political situation is all messed up, I still want to visit it to see the beautiful desert that Elisa travels over.

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)

6. Shadow and Bone---Ravka
I want to be a grisha. 'nuff said.
But to elaborate: the world Leigh Bardugo has created is so rich and full of beautiful landscapes.

The Phantom Tollbooth7. The Phantom Tollbooth
Dictionopolis, the Forest of Sight, the Mountains of Ignorance, the Valley of Sound, and Digitopolis were all places that I wanted to go in fourth grade when my teacher read it to us in class (well, except maybe the Mountains of Ignorance...those aren't pleasant). But the hilarious concepts in this world were just so clever.
The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia, #6)

8. The Chronicles of Narnia---Narnia
I mean, this goes without saying. It's a classic.

Anna and the French Kiss---France
Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1)Sure, sure. You can tell me all you want that France isn't a different or magical world, but the way Stephanie Perkins writes it you are not going to be able to convince of that. She writes it with such eloquence and beauty, and the most wonderful thing of all is that I CAN (and hopefully will) actually go there.

Fairest (Enchanted, #3) 11. Fairest and Ella Enchanted---Ayortha and Frell
A land where songs have power? SEND ME THERE. Now, please. And guys like Ijori and Char roaming around? As if I needed another reason to rush there.

  1. Great list! I've been meaning to get around to Leigh Bardugo's books (with the whole Russian elements involved and all) but I love Valente's The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making--can't wait to read the other books in that series :)

  3. Princess Academy was such a great book. And, I've had Shadow and Bone on my shelf for more than 6 months, and just haven't gotten to it yet. I really need to move this up on my list. Great list!
